I looked through the memories but there wasn't a specific entry for this question: I am looking for a craft or yarn store in DC that has embroidery materials, specifically one that has a large variety of colors of embroidery floss, and possibly some interesting yarn as well.
I live in Mt Pleasant and am trying to find something as close-in as possible, though I also spend a bit of time in the Takoma Park area.
Thanks,
A.

Hi,
I'm looking for a good jeweler. I have a sapphire I need set into a semi-mount setting. Does anyone know of any business or place in the area that has a good reputation? I am willing to go on the pricey side.
Thanks.

Hawaiian Style Restaurant / Mahi-mahi Recommendations?

Hellos.
I'm trying to find a restaurant for a Saturday evening dinner which features Hawaiian style foods. Google is not providing many options within the district and I don't see a way to search for this flavor on opentable.com.
I'm specifically looking for feedback from lovers of Mahi-mahi, since that's the dish most important to the guest of honor. If there is a great restaurant which serves Mahi-mahi but isn't Hawaiian based, that works, too.
Thanks for any insight.

Washing Machine

Hi all:
I looked through the memories, the DC code, and tons of landlord-tenant law guides, but I'm feeling overwhelmed by all the information and the legalese out there. So plain and simple:
I live in a house with four other college students. We just moved into this house at the end of August. The washing machine stopped working. We contacted our LL. He came, looked at it, told us that he'd have someone in. It was discovered that here were bits and pieces caught near the pump that caused the noise and drainage problems. Now we have a bill of $500 from the LL. So that means $100 from each person, and the LL holds us at fault because the bits and pieces, which included a bra under-wire and an ID card, were obviously ours, and "He (the LL) has never had a problem with the washing machine in the past 4 years." However, these things were caught in the washing machine because of a plastic bit that was inside which broke off from the drum, which is a problem that occurred because of wear-and-tear. Also, even before those things were lost, we were having problems with the washing machine.
We want to know if what the LL is doing is legal, and if he is allowed to do this. We would also like to know if there is some sort of agency out there that will provide Tenant Advocacy of some kind because we are all Deaf, and we would like a hearing person to advocate for us, in order to avoid any communication problems.
Thanks in advance,
Victoria

I'm planning on going to Asylum in NW tomorrow night for dinner. I've never been therefore, and I need to know approximately how loud the volume is there. I have hypersensitive hearing, and since there's live entertainment, I'm a little worried. If you've been there, could you rate the volume on a weekday evening at around 6pm? On a scale of 1-10 (1 is silence, 10 is rock concert). Or any other experiences you've had there relating to noise. Will I need to wear earplugs? =/ Thank you!!!

A FLEA IN HER EAR
October 8 - November 8, 2009
A New Version of Georges Feydeau's Farce, by David Ives
A pair of missing suspenders is the catalyst for a wild trip to the Frisky Puss Hotel where Raymonde Chandebise has set a trap to catch her husband Victor with a lover. Fourteen hilarious characters share an ardent appetite for affection. The spinning vortex of comedy fuels a delicious romp around a revolving bed and the ultimate chase sequence. This brilliant French farce is enlivened by the clever wit of comic playwright David Ives.

flags at half staff

here's a question for those of you who know more then i about such things. when riding my bike around town today i noticed that several places had their flags at half staff (white house, treasury, FAA, were the ones i noticed) but it was not universal. this seemed odd to me, when important folks die, say teddy kennedy, all the flags were down. i assume these were down for the sad events at fort hood but i wondered if anyone knew why only some of them were down. the flag code doesn't list death of soldiers (other then on memorial day) as a reason for half mast and i understand that this is simply an act of respect but the government likes to follow the flag code pretty closely so i wondered if anyone knew what was up. or what the logic in your department was for going half staff or not.
thanks
